York College guard Alicia Gumbs was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II/III Women's Basketball Honorable Mention selection for games played December 9-15. This laurel is her sixth-career MBWA weekly honor and the first of this campaign.
Adding to her solid season, Gumbs totaled 26 points, four rebounds, and a game-best four steals against Centenary University (Dec. 11). With 2:29 remaining in the second quarter, the senior became the program's 11th member of the 1,000-point club.
In six contests this campaign, Gumbs is averaging 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. Scoring-wise, the Queens native has scored over 57% of the team's points. On a conference level, the 1x-CUNYAC All-Star ranks highly in points (4th), steals (4th), and minutes (38.7, 3rd) per game. On a per-game basis, Gumbs places eighth in minutes, 20th in steals, and 26th in points among all Division III players.
