York College senior guard Alicia Gumbs was recognized as the CUNYAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection for games played during the November 18-24 reporting period. This CUNYAC weekly honor marks Gumbs' third of her career.
In two games, Gumbs averaged 20.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 0.5 blocks, while shooting 32.5 percent (13-of-40) from the field, 22 percent (2-of-9) from 3-point range and 60 percent (12-of-20) from the free-throw line. On the front end of back-to-back games for the Cardinals, the Queens native led York with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists against against Bryn Athyn College (Nov. 22). Returning to her scoring ways against Rutgers University-Newark (Nov. 23), Gumbs went off for a season-high 28 points (11-of-16 FT), while also recording team highs in rebounds (11) and assists (3). The double-double was Gumbs' sixth career and first of the campaign.
On the season, the reigning CUNYAC All-Star is averaging a team-leading 18.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. Her 56 points through three games accounts for 53.3 percent of the team's overall scoring. On a conference level, Gumbs ranks in the top 10 in points per game (4th), assists per game (T-7th), and steals per game (8th).
