@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer breaks scoring ice early in CUNYAC clash against CCNY

York College plays host Wednesday (Oct. 9) to Hunter College in a CUNYAC bout

BOX SCORE JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer continued CUNYAC competition Saturday afternoon against the CCNY Beavers (1-5-3, 1-0-1 CUNYAC), losing a backbreaking 3-2 result from York College Outdoor Athletic Complex.
 
First-Half Breakdown
Abdul Seck opened his York account in the sixth minute with a ferocious right-footed strike past CCNY goalkeeper Carlos Garcia. A half featuring two structured defenses, the Beavers had the next shot on goal, as Yusuf Abdelmegid's longshot fell into Cardinal netminder George Molina's hands in the 21st minute. Controlling the territory, CCNY equalized at the 35:36 mark as Adonijah Brooks rifled home a cross by Kiernan Sullivan. The Beavers had four more shots in the half but failed to score.

Second-Half Breakdown
Substitute Yanis Hamdi Pacha grabbed the lead for CCNY 13 minutes after the restart after turning home a loose ball in the 18-yard box. Midfielder Stanley Sanchez had York's first shot on target in the stanza, as his 67th-minute blast forced Garcia to tip it over the bar. Jamar Johnson leveled the score for the Cardinals nine minutes later as his left-footed curler crept inside the post. The strike was Johnson's first goal of the campaign. With York trying to hold onto the 2-2 scoreline, Hamdi Pacha headed home a cross by Abdelmegid with 34 seconds remaining to seal a dramatic 3-2 victory for the Beavers.

Besides the final result, CCNY had the advantage in shots (21-8), shots on target (9-3), and corners (6-2). Molina (1-5-1) was pressed into action with six saves, while Garcia (1-4-3) made one save in the Beaver triumph.
