@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer rallies in Senior Day draw against Medgar Evers

York College ends its campaign Saturday (Oct. 26) against SUNY Old Westbury

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer closed out their CUNYAC slate Tuesday afternoon against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (2-12-2, 0-5-1 CUNYAC), rallying in the second half for a 3-3 draw in a home battle from York College Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Before kickoff, Ahmed Algendy (2021-24), Anuar Arias (2023-24), Alex Conde (2022-24), Malal Diallo (2024), David Luna (2023-24), Michael Martey (2024), Stanley Sanchez (2022-24), and Abdul Seck (2024), were recognized for their dedication to York College with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.

First-Half Breakdown
Oscar Garcia gave Medgar Evers the lead in the fifth minute after turning the ball home from a corner kick. Piling on the pressure, the Cougars doubled their advantage at the 19:04 mark after Bernado Guerrier found the back of the net following a pass from Taye Simon. Looking for a third, the Cougars tested York goalkeeper George Molina (1-8-2) on three occasions before the end of the frame but could not beat him.

Second-Half Breakdown
Coming out like a cannon, Martey's longshot 52 seconds into the frame forced Medgar Evers netminder Chris Edosomwan into a sprawling save. In the ensuing corner, Sanchez struck the bar from 20 yards out. A couple of plays later, Suwesi Richards found himself free in the 18-yard box and lashed it home past Edosomwan to cut the deficit in half. This was Richards' first career goal. In the 53rd minute, Guerreir grabbed his brace to extend the margin back to two (3-1). Looking for an avenue back into the match, with 24:35 minutes remaining, Abdul Seck followed home Michael Martey's powerful shot to make it 3-2. Pushing all the men forward, the Cardinals found an equalizer at the 85:07 mark as Sanchez dispatched a penalty after Ernest Bawilliam drew a foul off a corner. With both sides looking for a winner, Molina saved the day in the 87th minute with a point-blank save to preserve the 3-3 draw.

Inside the Box Score
An even contest, York totaled more shots (23-22), but Medgar Evers had the edge in shots on goal (10-9) and corner kicks (5-3). In between the sticks, Molina parried seven shots, while Edosomwan (0-0-1) recorded six saves.
