York College continues CUNYAC competition Tuesday (Oct. 15) with a road display against Brooklyn College

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball returned to CUNYAC play Friday evening with a road matchup against the Hunter College Hawks (13-4, 3-0 CUNYAC), falling in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-6) inside Hunter Sportsplex.

First Set Breakdown
  • The Cardinals took an early 3-2 advantage. 
  • Three aces by Bethany Tomaneng helped Hunter take a 7-3 edge.
  • Leading 7-4, the Hawks utilized a 7-1 spurt to go up 14-5.
  • A kill by York's Madison Plaza kept the deficit at nine (17-8). 
  • Hunter claimed eight of the final 11 points to win the set at 25-11.
Second Set Breakdown
  • An ace by Liliana Khidr punctuated a 7-2 beginning for the Hawks. 
  • Smackdowns by York's Maritza Ortega Ramirez and Madison Plaza cut the deficit to three (9-6).
  • Still trailing by three (11-8), the Cardinals went on a 5-1 burst to lead 13-12.
  • The Hawks responded with seven unanswered points to take a 19-13 edge.
  • After an ace by Simranjit Kaur made it 19-15, Hunter closed out the period after winning the finals six points.
Third Set Breakdown
  • After York scored the first point of the stanza, the Hawks blitzed Cardinal nation with an 11-1 run to lead 11-2.
  • Asserting its dominance, Hunter went on a 12-1 spark to extend the margin to 20 (23-3). 
  • York claimed the following three points, but the Hawks eventually finalized the period with a 25-6 scoreline.
Leading the Cardinals For Hunter
  • Desiree Morales tallied a match-high 18 points (10 aces and eight kills)
  • Khidr served up 11 aces in her 15-point evening.
  • Amina Moummad authored 10 kills and 18 total attacks.
  • Tomaneng and Xheni Doci orchestrated 26 assists.

York hit -.280 on 25 attacks, while Hunter attacked at a rate of .293 on 58 swings. The Hawks also had the edge in points (58-5), kills (30-3), aces (28-1), and assists (27-2).
