NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball guard Alicia Gumbs was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection for games played January 22-28. This laurel is Gumbs' third-career MBWA weekly honor and the second of this campaign. 

Gumbs and the Cardinal women returned to action with an 86-38 road loss to the Medgar Evers College Cougars (Jan. 26). Gumbs netted a game-high 25 points and swiped a team-best four steals in 40 tough minutes.

In eight contests this season, the Queens native is averaging 22.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. A singular offensive engine, Gumbs has scored 60 percent of the team's points and has accumulated 59.1 percent of the team's assists. 

According to the NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Gumbs leads the nation in minutes per game (39.9), ranks ninth in points per contest, and is tied for 96th in defensive boards per game (6.4). Among CUNYAC competitors, the three-year veteran is first in minutes, third in points, sixth in assists, eighth in rebounds per game, and 17th in steals per game.
