FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College sophomore midfielder Stanley Sanchez was recognized Wednesday as a 2023 CUNYAC Men's Soccer Preseason Player to Watch as league officials released the eight-member squad.

Sanchez, a 2022 CUNYAC Second-Team All-Star, started in all 13 games during the 2022 season. He paced the Cardinals with two assists, and 12 shots on goal, ranked second on the team in points (8), goals (3), and shots (21), and third in minutes played (1097).

Voted on by the league coaches, York was picked to finish seventh in the CUNYAC Preseason Poll.

Lehman College topped the list with 46 points, along with four first-place votes, while the Cardinals received 13 total points. York's seven-match conference slate kicks off against Baruch College on September 27.

The 2023 CUNYAC Championship will take place October 25 (first-round), October 28 (semifinals), and November 4 (finals), with the league champion receiving an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

York finished last season with a 3-9-1 record, winning the final game with a convincing 1-0 non-conference victory against CCNY. In addition to Sanchez, York returns a pair of 2021 CUNYAC All-Stars in senior midfielder/forward Kervin Mondesir and junior goalkeeper Ahmed Algendy. Under the stewardship of first-year head coach Brahim Chhab, the roster currently features 10 familiar faces combined with four newcomers as the Cardinals will look to return to postseason play for the first time since 2013.

The Cardinals (0-1) return to action Saturday (Sept. 9) to play host against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-1) at 7 p.m. in a non-conference showdown from Aviator Field.
