PATCHOGUE, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer opened the 2023 season Sunday afternoon, dropping a 12-0 non-conference decision to the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) Golden Eagles (2-0) from Danzi Stadium.
St. Joseph's (L.I) got off to a blazing start, as Nick Pensavalle slotted home a penalty at the 5:52 mark. Pensavalle and James Dacos added two in the next five minutes to make the score 3-0.
Marvin Mondesir put York in the shot column 10:59 in for the Cardinals' first attempt. Mondesir challenged St. Joseph's again 9:26 later before two first-half strikes by Vincent Mariani put the Golden Eagles up 5-0 before half-time. For York, Mondesir led the squad with four shots and one shot on target.
Leading 6-0, Mariani completed his hattrick with a penalty in the 63rd minute. A variety of finishes from Connor Owenburg, Jose Rojas, Brandon Flaherty. Antonio Ruopoli, and Jacob Cusimano clinched the 12-0 victory for St. Josephs.

In the box score, the Golden Eagles maintained an edge in shots (27-4), shots on goal (19-1), and corners.
Ahmed Algendy (0-1) returned in net for the Cardinals, making seven saves. Golden Eagle netminder Giuseppe Vitale (1-0) recorded one save.
The Cardinals (0-1) are back in action Saturday (Sept. 9) to host the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-1) in a non-conference showdown at 7 p.m. from Aviator Field.
