York College’s Mac-Dege Dessources and Ellma Hodzic repeat as CUNYAC Women’s Basketball All-Star honorees while Imani Gibson grabs a spot on the Sportsmanship Team

FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.comYork College women's basketball garnered three honors Thursday as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its 2022-23 All-Star/Team awards at the annual awards luncheon. 
 
Senior center Mac-Dege Dessources, a New York native, added another All-Star laurel to pair with her two prior selections. In 22 contests, Dessources has averaged 18.1 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 29.6 minutes per game while shooting a career-high 50.3 percent (160-of-318) from the floor and 65 percent (78-of-120) from the free-throw line. Dessources leads the league in rebounds and field goal percentage and grades highly in blocks (2nd) and scoring (5th). In the latest NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Dessources is tied for fourth in double-doubles with 18 and sits at 11th in rebounds per game, 26th in blocks per game, 57th in field goal percentage, and 59th in points per game. Alongside her performances, Dessources has garnered two CUNYAC Players of the Week distinctions and was recognized by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) with a trio of Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selections this season.

Hailing from Queens, Hodzic is putting up 13.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 3.5 steals in 36.5 minutes over 22 games while shooting 35.8 percent from the field, 25.2 percent from 3-point range and 60.3 percent from the free-throw line. The versatile guard places highly in the CUNYAC leaderboard in minutes per game (2nd), assists (3rd), steals (5th), scoring (9th), and rebounding (16th). Hodzic also stands at 20th in steals per game and 39th in minutes per game in the NCAA Division III. This is Hodzic's second-consecutive All-Star nod.

Gibson, a product of Brooklyn, is York's fourth sportsmanship selection in as many seasons. Playing in all 21 games, Gibson is averaging 3.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16 minutes per contest. The one-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week is also shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from the line.

"It is a blessing to be named to the sportsmanship team.  This is all about being able to encourage my teammates on and off the court and just being there to help as much as I can."- said Gibson.

"In just her first season, Imani consistently demonstrated fair play, respect for opponents and gracious behavior both on and off the court. She exhibits qualities such as humility in victory and grace in defeat, making her a shining example for athletes to follow."-stated head coach Kimani Jackson
