www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball produced a trio of double-digit scorers Saturday afternoon on the road but were unable to keep pace with a DeSales University Bulldogs (6-2) squad that shot over 66 percent to build a 21-point halftime lead en route to claiming a 95-63 non-conference win over the Cardinals inside Billera Hall Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Tafari Jerome's layup at the 13:39 mark trimmed York's deficit to four (14-10), the closest the Cardinals got the rest of the half.
- DeSales responded with 14 unanswered points to lead 28-10.
- An extended 12-5 burst from the Cardinals made the score 33-22 with 6:33 remaining in the first half.
- Capped off by a Ryan Boylan layup with six seconds showing on the clock, the Bulldogs closed out the first period on a 19-9 run to take a 52-31 advantage.
- Jerome's pull-up jumper with just over 17 minutes left in the game made the score 57-40. The 17-point score was the closest York got the rest of the way.
- Pushing their edge to 60-40 after a Caleb Gibbs three-point play at the 16:36 mark in the second half, the Bulldogs' advantage never slipped below 20 points.
- Brian Whitney's triple with 33 seconds left on the clock ended the scoring with DeSales winning 95-63.
Leading the Cardinals
- Kila returned to double-figure output by leading the way with a team-high 16 points (7-of-16 FG) to go along with two steals and two assists.
- Aidony Nivar netted 11 points (4-of-9 FG, 2-of-6 3FG) off the bench and totaled a game-leading three steals.
- Rohan Singh added 10 points (2-of-3 3FG) net double-digit points for the third-straight game.
- Jerome chipped in with team-bests in assists (3) and blocks (2).
- Tyres Desinor and Micaiah Goosby both grabbed a team-high five boards.
For DeSales
- Will Bowen paced the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points (6-of-9 FG, 3-of-5 3FG).
- Gibbs contributed 13 points (5-of-7 FG, 3-of-3 FT), nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
- Elijah Eberly netted 12 points (6-of-8 FG) and swatted away a game-high three shots.
- Mason Barnes scored 11 (4-of-5 FG, 3-of-4 3 FG) points and distributed a game-best eight dimes.
- Boylan added 10 points (4-of-7 FG) and eight rebounds off the bench.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 36.1 percent (26-of-72) from the floor, 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from downtown, and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from the charity stripe. DeSales canned 52 percent (39-of-75) from the field, 37.1 percent (13-of-35) from 3-point territory, and 40 percent (4-of-10) from the line.
York finished with a season-low nine turnovers as the Bulldogs were pressured into committing 13 miscues. Alongside their advantage in shooting, the Bulldogs maintained control in the rebound (53-31) and assist (29-9) departments. DeSales also outplayed York in points in the paint (46-32) and points off turnovers (17-14), while the Cardinals owned the edge in fast break points (10-2).
