Alicia Gumbs was recognized Monday as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its weekly awards for games played December 11-17. Gumbs was named the CUNYAC Player of the Week Honorable Mention for the second time this season.
Lighting up the stat sheet for the Cardinals, Gumbs averaged 28.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 40 percent (16-of-40) from the field, 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from 3-point range and 65.5 percent (19-of-29) from the free-throw line last week. Hosting Lehman College (Dec. 11), Gumbs paced York with a team-best 27 points, six assists, and four steals, to go along with a career-high 18 boards in the 72-44 loss. Facing Western Connecticut State University (Dec. 16), Gumbs netted an efficient 29 points (8-of-18 FG, 3-of-4 3FG, 10-of-14 FT) and recorded a team-high eight rebounds and three dimes.
In seven contests this season, the Queens native is averaging 22.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Gumbs has scored 59.6 percent of the team's points and has accumulated 62.2 percent of the team's assists.
In the CUNYAC hierarchy, the three-year veteran is first in minutes (40.0), third in points, fifth in free-throw percentage (68.2), seventh in assists, and eighth in rebounds. Per the NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Gumbs leads the nation in minutes per game and ranks 12th in points per contest.
