Aidony Nivar was recognized Monday, as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its weekly awards for games played December 4-10. With this award, Nivar becomes the fourth player in the history of the men's basketball program to receive three CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selections.
Facing two tough opponents last week, Nivar had two double-digit scoring displays. Playing 38 tough minutes against Amherst College (Dec. 7), he scored 12 points (5-of-9 FG, 2-of-6 3FG) and grabbed a career-high six rebounds in the 72-67 defeat. Opposing DeSales University (Dec. 9) on the road, Nivar contributed 11 points (4-of-9 FG, 2-of-6 3FG) and had a game-high three steals.
In eight contests this season, the rookie is averaging 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game, while shooting 43.4 percent (36-of-83) from the floor and 33.4 percent (20-of-59) from beyond the arc.
Among York players, the Dominican native is first in steals, second in points, and fourth in rebounds per game. In the CUNYAC hierarchy, Nivar is third in steals, third in 3-point field goals made, fourth in downtown shooting, and 12th in points per contest.
