Alicia Gumbs was recognized Tuesday with the Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection, as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its weekly awards for games played November 20-26. After a blazing start to the campaign, the superstar received her long-awaited first CUNYAC weekly honor.
Hosting the Rosemont College Ravens (Nov. 21), Gumbs paced the squad with a game-leading 27 points to go along with a career-high 14 rebounds and four steals in a 60-43 defeat. Trailing by 24 points (30-6), Gumbs spearheaded a 33-15 burst to trim the deficit to six.
Statistically, the Queens native has played every minute for the Cardinals and is averaging a career-best 8.0 rebounds a contest. In addition, she is responsible for 65% of the team's points and 83% of the team's assists.
In the CUNYAC hierarchy, the three-year veteran is first in minutes per game and third in points per game (24.7). According to the NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Gumbs is 11th in the nation in points per game and tied for second in minutes per game.
