@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer nets pair of goals in home finale versus Yeshiva

York College returns to the pitch next Tuesday (Nov. 7) to close out the season with a non-conference bout on the road against Medgar Evers College

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer tied a season-high with two goals to close out their home slate Thursday afternoon with a non-conference matchup against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-12), but were unable to overcome a two-goal halftime deficit to drop a 3-2 decision from Aviator Field.

First-Half Breakdown
  • The Maccabees took their first of eight shots in the opening half with an attempt by Agam Halperin that was turned away by York goalie Aisatou Diallo (0-5-0).
  • Yeshiva broke the scoring ice in the 20th minute to grab the early lead as Leeby Levine finished a feed from Maya Aronson to beat Diallo.
  • Zaria Neptune attacked the goal in the 18th minute to land a shot on target for York's first attempt on Yeshiva netminder Maayan Berkowitz (1-8-0).
  • Levine then doubled Yeshiva's advantage at the 19:42 mark to make it a two-score match.
  • York answered in the 28th minute with Zaria Neptune's second goal of the season to slice the Cardinal's deficit in half.
  • Yeshiva closed out the half with a last second score by Halperin to build a 3-1 lead heading into the second stanza.
Second-Half Breakdown
  • The Maccabees tested York's defense early and often in the second half, but the Cardinals refused to give in by holding Yeshiva scoreless on 14 shots in the final 45 minutes.
  • York created opportunities to test Berkowitz with five shots on goal in the final period.
  • Berkowitz stopped attempts by Marissa Alexander (58th minute) and Neptune (66th minute), before Alexander found the back of the net in the 80th minute. Latching onto a through ball from Neptune, Alexander nutmeged Berkowitz for her first-career goal.
  • Leading 3-2, the Maccabees had a chance to seal the match with a penalty kick, but Diallo turned away Levine's spot kick to keep the score at 3-2.
  • Searching for an equalizer, Neptune's strikes from the edge of the box in the final seven minutes found Berkowitz's arms.
