York College opposes Hunter College on Wednesday (Jan. 18) in a CUNYAC road tilt

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball dominated the City College of New York Beavers (3-12, 1-4 CUNYAC) Friday night, winning 63-24 in a home CUNYAC encounter.

How it Happened
  • York raced out to an 11-0 lead, holding CCNY scoreless for the opening 6:37.
  • Ellma Hodzic's jumper with 46 seconds remaining capped off a 21-2 first-quarter burst. 
  • The Beavers began the second quarter on an 8-1 run over the first 2:59.
  • Imani Gibson's free throw ended the scoring at the 1:11 mark to send York into the break leading 29-12.
  • A 20-5 third frame scoring surge extended York's advantage to 32 (49-17).
  • The Cardinals outpaced CCNY 14-7 in the fourth quarter to seal a 63-24 win.

Speaking on how the team can use tonight's victory for momentum, head coach Kimani Jackson stated; "The team should focus on the things they did well during the game and try to replicate those efforts in the next game. They should also analyze and learn from mistakes made and make adjustments in order to improve."

Inside the Box Score
Mac-Dege Dessources paced York with a team-high 20 points (6-of-15 FG, 8-10 FT) and added 14 boards and six blocks (game-high). Kristina Sierra netted 12 points (4-of-10 FG, 3-of-6 3FG) as Hodzic reached 10 points and stuffed the stat sheet with seven steals (tied career-high), six rebounds and five assists. Alicia Gumbs scored 10 points (5-of-12 FG) and has a game-high six assists. Aminata Sagna produced nine points and corralled a career-high 16 boards. 

Anna Vikatos led CCNY with eight points (2-of-11 FG, 3-of-4 FT). Monae Laing grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds. Noemy Santana and Kasia Morrison each finished with two steals.

The Cardinals shot 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the field, 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 71.4 (15-of-21) from the free-throw line. CCNY hit 13.8 percent (8-of-58) from the floor, 11.8 percent (2-17) from downtown, and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the charity stripe.  York controlled the glass, outrebounding the Beavers by 20 (49-29). Additionally, the Cardinals had more assists (15-5), blocks (8-3), and steals (14-7). Capitalizing off CCNY's errors, York scored 24 points off 25 Beaver miscues. The Cardinals won the points in the paint battle (26-8) and had the edge in second-chance points (11-6) and fast break points (11-2).
