Marvin Mondesir was recognized Monday by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Player of the Week, released by league officials for games played September 5-11.
Mondesir led York to a season-opening victory for the first time since 2018 by spearheading the charge in a 2-0 home win against Bard College (3-1-0) on Saturday (Sept. 10) from Aviator Field. After a scoreless first half, Mondesir broke the scoring ice just 1:32 in by beating two defenders to chip the ball past Raptor goalie Walter Schwabauer (3-1-0) for his second-career game-winning goal. Later in the stanza, Mondesir doubled York's advantage with a header into the back of the net in the 85th minute to settle the 2-0 final. The 2019 CUNYAC second-team All-Star put up a match-high five shots (four on goal) to produce his third-career multi-goal game.
Hailing from Port-au-Prince, Haïti, Mondesir currently leads the conference in points per game (1st, 4.00), points (T-1st, 4), goals per game (1st, 2.00), shots per game (5.00), shots on goal per game (4.00), ranks among the league leaders in goals (T-2nd, 2), shots (6th, 5) and shots on goals (T-4th, 4).
The Cardinals (1-0-0) return to action Friday (Sept. 16) against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (1-2-1) at 3 PM from SEU Soccer Field in Morristown, New Jersey.
