www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball closed out their regular season schedule Thursday evening with the John Jay College Bloodhounds (9-11, 7-5 CUNYAC), dropping a CUNYAC road decision in straight sets (25-7, 25-13, 25-13) inside The Doghouse.
The Cardinals started slow in the opening sets to fall behind as multiple John Jay scoring runs led to the Bloodhounds securing the stanzas one and two.
Justin Dibra served York's lone ace of the match in the third set to put the Cardinals in front, 4-3. John Jay then ignited a 7-1 run to balloon its advantage to 10-5. York got as close as four points (13-9) before John Jay used a 12-4 run to net the match point.
David Heyliger, Jr. led York with a stat line that consisted of three kills on 16 swings, one assist and tied a match-high three digs.
Anthony Nazario, Jr. fed the Cardinal offense four assists with
Olawale Kila nailed down two kills. Dibra,
Jamie Haskell and
Alex Winter contributed two digs apiece to the York's defensive front.
Kyle Barriffe-Johnson piloted the Bloodhounds to victory with a match-high 11.5 points and nine kills. Logan Ramos followed with seven kills and three digs while Manuel Peralta registered a match-high 14 assists and nine aces.
York ended the contest with seven kills on 44 attempts to hit a season-low -.341. John Jay outplayed the Cardinals in points (50-8), kills (27-7), assists (26-6), aces (19-1), blocks (4-0), digs (14-10) and attacking percentage (.218 / -.341).
The Cardinals (0-15, 0-11 CUNYAC) continue to CUNYAC Championship play for the first time since 2016, with the first round set to get underway on Tuesday (Apr. 5).
