York College freshman guard Alicia Gumbs was recognized by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Women's Basketball Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection, announced Tuesday for games played February 21-27.
Gumbs led York to victory in the season finale by playing all 40 minutes to tie a career-high with 19 points during a 57-47 home win against CCNY (Feb. 23). She shot 7-of-15 from the field, 1-of-3 from 3-point range and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line to go along with eight rebounds (tied career-high), three assists and one steal.
In 17 games, Gumbs averaged 9.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 steals per contest while connecting on 35.7 percent (61-of-171) from the floor. The Queens native currently ranks 11th in NCAA Division III with 38.2 minutes per game. Gumbs ranks among the CUNYAC leaders in points per game (16th), rebounds per game (18th), assists per game (T-6th), steals per game (T-14th), field goal percentage (17th) and minutes per game (3rd, 38.2).
