FLUSHING, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball freshman
Imani Gibson was recognized Monday by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) as the Rookie of the Week, released by league officials for games played between November 28-December 4. The Rookie of the Week distinction is York's first since January 15, 2019, when
Mac-Dege Dessources was recognized for her efforts for the fifth time.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Gibson averaged 11.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 77 percent (10-of-13) from the field to spark York to a 2-0 week.
In a 76-53 CUNYAC-opening win at Medgar Evers College (Dec. 2), Gibson logged 34 minutes in a starting role to produce career-highs of 20 points (9-of-12 FG) and 13 rebounds (five offensive) to register her first-career double-double. She added four rebounds and two points in an 83-36 home win against Pratt Institute (Nov. 30). Over seven games this season, Gibson is averaging 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She ranks first in the CUNYAC hierarchy on an efficient 59.4 (19-of-32 FG) shooting from the floor.
Gibson and the Cardinals (5-2) return to action Friday (Dec. 9) against the Western Connecticut State University Wolves (4-1) at 5 p.m in a non-conference battle inside York College Gymnasium.
