@yorkcardinals Cross Country battles at SUNY Old Westbury Halloween Dual Meet

York College competes in the CUNYAC Championships on Sunday (Oct. 30)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's and women's cross country battled Friday morning against Yeshiva and SUNY Old Westbury at the Halloween Dual Meet from the SUNY Old Westbury campus.

The Cardinal men finished in second place, winning their team matchup against SUNY Old Westbury (21-45), but falling to Yeshiva University (34-32). Individually, Djelili Okoro paced York by finishing 3rd out of 17 runners with a stout 15:13 time. Completing the race over a minute later, Emmanuel Haynes' 16:32 time was good for 6th. Rounding out the top 10, Bryan Ortiz and Glenver Stuart finished 8th (16:33) and 9th (16:49), respectively. Ahmed Algendy had the 14th-best result of the meet at 28:32.

Yeshiva outperformed both schools, as Gadi Postler's 14:15 finish and Joseph Segal's 15:07 run led the way.  

On the women's side, York's results were not enough to finish above the either school. When compared to SUNY Old Westbury, the Panthers won (49-58). Side by side with Yeshiva, the Maccabees came out on top (25-53). Focusing on the individuals, out of 22 runners, Taylor Bellmon and Emmaly Merced produced top-five finishes. Bellmon's 20:32 time earned her second place, while Merced's 20:44 result was good for 5th. Outside the top 10, Joanne Chavez came in 11th (23:50), Nayelly Rojas crossed the finish line at 28:07 (13th), Melanie Guerrero followed at 32:52 (15th), and Peta-Gay Hunter's 32:53 result was good for 16th. Florence Etienne closed out the lineup at 36:42 (21st). 

Yeshiva's Danielle Hornstein (19:18) topped the meet. 

York faces a quick turnaround, competing in the CUNYAC Championships on Sunday (Oct. 30) at 10:30 a.m. in Van Cortlandt Park.
