FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College freshman goalkeeper Ahmed Elgendy was recognized Monday by the City University of New York Athletic Conference as the Rookie of the Week for games played during the September 13-19 reporting period.  Elgendy is the first Cardinal since Menard Millus in 2010 to be named a two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honoree. 

Residing in Jamaica, Queens, Elgendy registered a career-high 15 saves during a double overtime 1-1 draw in York's home opener versus Saint Elizabeth University. (Sept. 15).  Elgendy also faced 10 of Saint Elizabeth's 37 shots on the day during the extra time periods to preserve the tie.  He stopped five of 29 attempts against College of Mount Saint Vincent (Sept. 18) in a 2-1 setback to close out the week. 

Through three matches, Elgendy currently leads the CUNYAC in saves per game (10.0) and saves (30) while ranking fourth in GAA and ranks among the league leaders in save percentage (2nd, .750) and goals against average (4th, 3.103).

The Cardinals (0-2-1) return to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 25) for a non-conference matchup against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-3-0). Game time and location will be announced in the coming days.
