BROOKLYN --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer took a two-goal lead Friday afternoon on the City College of New York Beavers (7-11-0) before allowing six second-half goals to fall 6-2 in the season finale from Aviator Field.
The Cardinals (2-10-1) broke the scoring ice at the 7:40 mark when
Emmanuel Franco picked up a loose ball to tally his second goal of the season to stake York a 1-0 lead.
Ahmed Elgendy (2-8-1) turned a pair of breakaway goals in the first-half to send the Cardinals into intermission with a clean sheet.
In the second-half, Franco doubled York's advantage by landing a penalty kick past Beaver netminder Roger Saquipay (2-4-0) for a two-goal cushion in the 56th minute. CCNY answered in the 62nd minute with a goal by Moustapha Salane to slice the deficit in half. In the 74th minute, John Yauri delivered the equalizer before the scoring continued with a game-winning goal by Adonijah Brooks in the 81st minute. Erik Himenez added goals in the 84th and 85th minutes before Gary Arellano settled the scoring with 3:51 remaining.
Elgendy made five saves in defeat while Saquipay stopped three shots.
In the end, CCNY's big second-half helped the Beavers hold the edge in shots (16-14), shots on goal (11-5) and corner kicks (5-3).
York graduates a senior class of three as
Wayne Dawkins (2021),
Adedayo Epemolu (2018-21) and
Kirk Gardner (2018-21) all closed out the playing careers as a Cardinal.
