Ahmed Elgendy has been named the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday by league officials.
As a resident of Jamaica, Queens, Elgendy faced 33 attempts against Hunter College (Sept. 29) and turned away 12 shots to record his first-career win in leading York to its first CUNYAC-opening win since 2014. The triumph was also York's first victory against Hunter since 2014. Elgendy closed out the week by grabbing 11 saves as CCNY (Oct. 2) attempted 28 shots.
Elgendy is the NCAA Division III leader with 10.60 saves per contest. In five matches in between the pipes, Elgendy leads the CUNYAC in saves (53) and saves per game while ranking among the league leaders in save percentage (2nd, .779) and goals against average (6th, 2.872).
The Cardinals (1-3-1, 1-1-0 CUNYAC) return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 6) for a CUNYAC showdown against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (1-7-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) at 3 p.m. from College Point Field. At present time, spectators are not permitted at College Point Field. Visit
