www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer was well represented on Thursday for their production throughout the 2021 season when the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its year-end awards. The Cardinals garnered a pair of CUNYAC All-Stars for the first time since 2014 as sophomore forward
Kervin Mondesir was selected to the first-team and freshman goalie
Ahmed Elgendy landed on the second-team. Senior midfielder
Kirk Gardner was named one of eight members on the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team.
Hailing from Port-au-Prince, Haïti, Mondeisr led the Cardinals with a career-high 23 points, 10 goals, three assists, 36 shots and 19 shots on goal. Mondesir sparked York to victory with game-winning goals against Hunter College and Medgar Evers College. The sophomore sensation produced points in seven-straight games, including a goal-scoring streak of five games. Against Hunter, Mondesir netted two goals including his first-career game-winner in leading York to its first CUNYAC-opening win since 2014. The triumph was also York's first victory against Hunter since 2014. He also produced a career-high six points with a hat trick against Lehman College. Mondesir currently leads the CUNYAC in points per game (1st, 2.30) and goals per game (1st, 1.000) while ranking among the league leaders in goals (2nd), points (2nd), game-winning goals (T-3rd), game-winning goals per game (4th, .200), assists (T-7th, 3), assists per game (7th, .300), shots on goal (5th), shots on goal per game (3rd, 1.90), shots (T-6th) and shots per game (3rd, 3.60). He also ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in goals per game (12th), points per game (15th), shots per game (67th), shots on goal per game (59th), goals (86th) and points (106th).
For the second consecutive season, York has produced a freshman CUNYAC All-Star with the selection of Elgendy. As a resident of Queens, Elgendy led the CUNYAC with 89 saves at a rate of 8.90 stops per contest. Elgendy set a career-high with 15 saves against Brooklyn College (Oct. 13) and Saint Elizabeth University (Sept. 15). The three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection ranks second in the CUNYAC in save percentage (.748) and minutes played (914:44), and seventh in goals per game (2.952). Making 10 starts for the Cardinals, Elgendy has registered 10+ saves in six games to rank among the NCAA Division III leaders in saves per game (4th) and saves (30th). Against Hunter, Elgendy turned away 12 shots to record his first-career win in leading York to its first CUNYAC-opening win since 2014, and the program's first victory against Hunter since 2014.
Gardner, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, started in the Cardinal midfield in 10 of 12 games to set a career-high with one goal and two assists. Gardner is York's fifth Sportsmanship Team selection since 2014, and second in as many seasons.
