Mac-Dege Dessources produced a trio of double-doubles (14 on the season) last week to earn recognition Tuesday from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Women's Basketball Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection for games played February 10-16. The MBWA weekly honor is Dessources' second of the season.
Dessources was the leading rebounder in all three games and was the top scorer in two contests last week to average 19.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 57.7 percent from the field (26-of-45 ) and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line (5-of-6). She tallied 20 points (9-of-17 FG, 2-of-2 FT), 21 rebounds and two blocks to post her second 20/20 game of the season in a 61-47 senior day win versus Baruch College (Feb. 10). Dessources followed with 16 points (7-of-15 FG. 2-of-2 FT), 13 rebounds, two blocks and a steal to lead York to a 73-52 victory at CCNY (Feb. 12). In the regular-season finale, Dessources notched 21 points (10-of-13 FG), 14 rebounds and one block in York's 72-38 triumph at Medgar Evers College (Feb. 15).
The Harlem native is averaging 13.9 points on 49.1 percent shooting from the floor (137-of-279) to go with 13.3 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 0.9 steals in 24 games. Dessources leads the CUNYAC in double-doubles, rebounds per game, rebounds (318), blocked shots per game and blocked shots (45) while ranking among the league leaders in points per game (11th), points (10th, 333), field goal percentage (3rd), made field goals (6th, 137) and made free-throws (15th, 58).
In the latest NCAA Rankings Summary, Dessources ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in rebounds (4th), rebounds per game (5th), offensive rebounds per game (13th, 5.0), defensive rebounds per game (15th, 8.3), double-doubles (12th), blocked shots (58th), blocked shots per game (70th) and field goal percentage (86th).
Dessources and the Cardinals (10-14, 7-7 CUNYAC) return to the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 season Saturday (Feb. 22) when they travel as the No. 5 seed to No. 4 Baruch (14-9, 8-6 CUNYAC) for a CUNYAC Championship first-round showdown starting at 1 p.m. inside ARC Arena.
