www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball returned home Friday night to dominate the Lehman College Lightning (1-19, 1-9 CUNYAC) for a convincing 58-16 CUNYAC win inside York College Gymnasium to secure the season sweep for the second-straight year.
The Cardinals took control of the game from the opening tap, scoring 11 unanswered points to race out to a quick 11-0 lead. Moments later,
Mac-Dege Dessources dropped in a layup with 1:39 left to post her 11th double-double of the season (23rd career) to ignite a 7-0 Cardinal run to go up by 16 at the end of 10 minutes of play. The Cardinal defense held Lehman scoreless during the second quarter, netting 10 points off eight turnovers to lead 34-4 at the break.
York went up by 32 points in the third period and extended its lead to a game-high 42 points in the final stanza as
Diamond Jackson sank a jumper with 20 seconds left to settle the 58-16 final.
Dessources finished with 17 points (8-of-18 FG), 18 rebounds, five blocks and two steals to lead York to victory.
Kristina Sierra connected on 3-of-7 from deep to score 11 points and
Ellma Hodzic followed with 10.
Dayana Jacome and Lizbeth Nunez each nabbed four steals as Jackson went for eight points and three thefts off the bench.
Fatomata Trawalleh paced Lehman with 12 points and four steals. Eriadna Vasquez recorded four steals and Kerri-Ann Taylor chipped in with three.
York hit on 41.3 percent from the field (26-of-63), 33.3 from 3-point territory (3-of-9) and landed 60 percent from the free-throw line (3-of-5) while Lehman shot just 14 percent from the floor (6-of-43), 8.3 percent from long distance (1-of-12) and 50 percent from the charity stripe (3-of-6). The Cardinals outrebounded Lehman by 23, scoring 17 second-chance points off 21 offensive boards. York also outplayed the Lightning in assists (19-1), steals (18-13), blocks (6-0), points in the paint (42-10), points off turnovers (29-6) and bench scoring (12-0).
The Cardinals (7-12, 4-6 CUNYAC) travel Tuesday (Feb. 4) to Staten Island close out a season series with the College of Staten Island Dolphins (11-8) starting at 5:30 p.m. inside CSI Sports & Recreation Center.
