JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's tennis opened the 2019 season Thursday with a convincing result by claiming match points in three positions as part of a 6-3 loss to the visiting St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (2-0) from York College Courts. The three match wins were the Cardinals highest total since 2014, when York defeated College of New Rochelle with a 6-3 final.
Leading the charge for the Cardinals in the No. 1 singles spot was
Geraldine Guese, who was victorious with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Katie Estes.
Monique James started strong in the No. 6 slot, posting three wins in the first set against Raquel Ramirez. The duo of
Rimsha Razi and
Keanya Garries will look to build on their 8-1 loss in third doubles.
By default, York won first doubles and third singles.
York (0-1) will look to carry the momentum generated from today's individual results on September 16, when they return to the court at home against the College of Staten Island Dolphins at 3:30 p.m.
