MANHATTANÂ --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â The York College Cardinal joined the CUNY community Sunday at the fifth annual New York City Disability Pride Parade in Manhattan.
Organizing 19 student member organizations across 23 schools and colleges to represent more than 9,000 students with disabilities, the CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities (CCSD) is the biggest not-for-profit umbrella organization in the disability field at The City University of New York. CCSD brought together campus mascots, student leaders, faculty and staff marched together starting at Madison Square Park. The parade proceeded down Broadway and culminated with a festival in Union Square Park.
With a creativity theme at the fifth annual parade, costumes, decorated wheelchairs, creative hairstyles, umbrellas and t-shirts were on full display throughout the parade and festival.
The event featured elected officials, celebrities and people from all over the world joining in a celebration of people with disabilities and all they have accomplished including all the civil rights activity that led up to the pass of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).Â
The mission of Disability Pride NYC is to promote inclusion, awareness, and visibility of people with disabilities, and redefine public perception of disability.  The goal of Disability Pride NYC is to establish an annual Disability Pride parade in New York City and to support people with disabilities in whatever way we can. For more information at Disability Pride NYC, please visit
