The Cardinals travel next Wednesday (Apr. 24) to Rosemont, Pennsylvania for a non-conference doubleheader against Rosemont College

BELLEROSE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Ā York College softball closed out a three-game homestand Tuesday afternoon with 10-0 and 16-7 non-conference losses to the Yeshiva University Maccabees (3-23) from Padavan-Preller Field in Bellerose, New York.

Game 1 (5 Inn.): Yeshiva 10, York 0
Cardinal starter Rosenery Chicaiza (L, 0-7: 5 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 6 BB, 8 K) and Maccabee hurler Samantha Cohen (W, 2-15: 5 IP, 4 H, 5 K) were locked in a pitcher's duel until a two-run single by Sarah Hiller (1-for-1, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB) during a decisive third inning scored Basya Goldstein (3-for-4, RB, R, 3 SB) Ā for the game-winning run.

Yeshiva tacked on three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to settle the final. Ā

Shamonie Miller (2-for-2) produced a career-high two hits with third and fifth inning singles to lead the Cardinal offense. Ā

Chicaiza finished with a game-high eight strikeouts to tie her personal-best performance. Ā

Game 2 (5 Inn.): Yeshiva 16, York 7
Yeshiva collected six hits and capitalized on three Cardinal errors to put up a 12-run opening inning on Chicaiza (L, 0-8: 0.1 IP, 6 H,. 12 R, 7 ER, 2 BB). Ā

The Cardinals answered in the bottom of the first by working four-straight walks as Chana Boltax (W, 1-8: 5 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 11 BB, 4 K) handed Chicaiza (1-for-3, 2 RBI, R, BB) a free pass to advance Isis Funez (2-for-2, 2 R, RBI, BB) home for York's initial run.

Trailing 14-1, York batted 11 Cardinals during a six-run second inning to slice its deficit in half (14-7). Ā Funez ignited the big inning with a RBI single to score Valentina Pozo. Three batters later, Chicaiza laced a RBI single up the middle to plate home Funez before Nicolasa Restituyo (1-for-2, 2 RBI, R, BB) drilled a two-run double. Ā Mary Cuevas closed out York's scoring with a RBI single that pushed Restituyo across for the seventh run. Ā

The Cardinals threatened in the fourth and fifth innings with a pair of stranded two runners in each frame. Ā In the fifth, Ā Dorianny Rojas' double led off the inning and Ovelheira (1-for-1, R, 3 BB) later earned her third walk of the game before Boltax fanned the game's final batter to secure the sweep for Yeshiva.
