NEW YORK, N.Y- The York College men's volleyball team were thwarted by John Jay College on Tuesday night. John Jay defeated the Cardinals, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-17).
The Cardinals began the day by digging themselves from a 16-10 deficit. In the first set, the Cardinals made runs but unable to complete the comeback. York totaled four kills and eight errors. The Bloodhounds finished the first set with nine kills and nine errors.
The second set was where the Cardinals put their best foot forward. The Cardinals racked up 11 kills. With John Jay leading 23-16, the Cardinals scored the next six points to be down 23-23, but John Jay would go on to grab the next two points and take the second set.
The third set started back and forth as well. After York took a 13-11 lead, John Jay stormed back to tie the game. This run would see the Bloodhounds score14 of the next 18 points and win the set.
The Cardinals were led on the night by
Akil Vaughn's nine kills and four blocks, while
Kevin Campbell added six kills.
Philton Paul led the team with nine assists. For John Jay, Krystian Surdel earned a match-high 12 kills.
York (3-19) will play another home game Wednesday night as they take on St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m.
