Marvin Mondesir has been named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for games played October 7-13, announced Tuesday by league officials.
Mondesir, a product of Port-au-Prince, Haïti, became York's first CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honoree since 2014,when
Diron Duah was recognized for the September 15-21 reporting period. He extended his scoring streak to three games to open the week with his first-career game-winning goal in the 63rd minute to lead York to a 2-1 win at John Jay College (Oct. 9). Mondesir's run of six goals in three games ended against Medgar Evers College (Oct. 12), where he played a solid midfield and was a contributing factor to a 2-1 win as York produced a 2-0 week.
On the season, Mondesir has a team-leading 15 points on seven goals and one assist in 11 games. Mondesir ranks among the CUNYAC leaders in points (T-4th), points per game (3rd, 1.36), goals (T-3rd), goals per game (2nd, .636), shots on goal (3rd, 21), shots on goal per game (3rd, 1.91), shots (4th, 37) and shots per game (3rd, 3.36).
The Cardinals (3-10-0, 2-3-0 CUNYAC) ride a two-game winning streak for the first time since 2014 into a CUNYAC showdown on the road Saturday (Oct. 19) against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-11-0, 2-3-0) at 2:30 p.m. from Brooklyn College Field.
