Women's Basketball second half surge downs Lehman College
BRONX, N.Y. — The York College (N.Y.) women's basketball team (4-16, 3-8 CUNYAC) downed Lehman College, 65-48 (1-18, 1-10 CUNYAC), in a second-half surge to secure the CUNYAC victory on Friday night at The Apex.
The Cardinals got a season-high 24 points from
Ellma Hodzic (Queens, N.Y./Queens Metropolitan) with
Keyla Cabrera (Queens, N.Y./Bayside) and
Sheahna Roscher (Bronx, N.Y./Fannie Lou Hamer) pitching in with 12 points each.
After a close start to the first quarter, York ended the period on an 11-0 run, featuring a combined 15 points from Roscher and Hodzic, as York held a 20-11 advantage after one. The Cardinals established a double-digit lead early in the second, but the Lightning finished on a 15-5 run to be down by two points with a 28-26 score at the half.
York didn't look back, winning the second half 37-23 as they would go on for a 17-point triumph in a league battle on the road. As a team Cardinals won the rebounding battle 57 to 37, and the defense held the Lightning to a 21% mark from the field over the final two quarters.
Next up for the Cardinals is a home game against conference rival College of Staten Island on Tuesday (Jan. 29) at 5:30 p.m.
