Men’s Soccer Stumbles in Second Half to St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — Junior
Ivan Brito (Belo Horizonte, Brazil / Newcomers) found the back of the net to bring the York College men's soccer team within one, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) scored three unanswered goals to hand the Cardinals a 5-1 loss in the first game of the SJC Long Island Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
St. Joseph's struck first just past the 20-minute mark with a Kenneth Garcia strike, but the red and white weathered a 9-1 shot discrepancy in the first half with
Tyrese Jackson (Brooklyn, NY / BCAM HS) making three saves to keep York in the game trailing 1-0 at the intermission.
Garcia scored again early in the second half to put the Bears up by two before Brito scored his first of the season in the 58th minute. St. Joseph's would counter with a tally five minutes later and added two more goals, despite York holding a 7-0 edge in corner kicks in the second half.
Brito would finish with a pair of shots and
Jean Arias Gonzalez (Dominican Republic / Colegio Claret) also recorded a shot on goal.
York (1-2) will face hosts St. Joseph's College (Long Island) in the second game of the Invitational tomorrow at 3 p.m.
