Ovelheira Homers but York Drops Doubleheader vs. Lehman

BRONX, N.Y.--  Despite a a power display from York's Nicole Ovelheira, the York College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Lehman College on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals dropped game one, 10-2, and lost the nightcap, 13-2.

In game one, Lehman opened the scoring after a hit batter forced a home a run in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, Ovelheira blasted a home run to left field to tie the score at 1-1.

Unfortunately for York, there wasn't much else to cheer for after that.  Lehman responded with two runs in the second after an error brought home both runs.  Four more Lehman runs followed in the bottom of the third. The inning was highlighted by a two-run triple by Andrelina Gil.

York got another run in the fourth, with Ovelheira once again bringing in a run—this time on a RBI groundout.  However, Lehman tacked on two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Game #2 saw the Lightning take a commanding 7-0 lead after just two innings of play. Lehman's Maranda Diaz led off the bottom of the first with a homer to lead the rally.

York managed two runs in the top of the third thanks to a RBI double from Alyssa King and an RBI from Nathy Reyes.

In the bottom of the third, Diaz struck again—this time with a three-run blast to cap off a six-run frame and put the game well out of reach.

York is now 0-9, 0-6 CUNYAC. They will return to action tomorrow to take on the University of Valley Forge on the road at 3 p.m.
