BELLEROSE, N.Y.—The York College softball team dropped its final two games of the season to a strong College of New Rochelle team by scores of 17-2 and 13-0 respectively on Sunday afternoon.
It was the final games of the season for York (1-24) and for seniors
Karen Bellamy,
Allison Ahmed and
Giovana Rosado who were honored prior to the game.
Unfortunately, York could not end on a positive note as the New Rochelle (22-10) lineup was just too much for Cardinal pitching. Victoria Holmes had a monster game one, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a grand slam with seven RBIs.
York's two runs came on a RBI singles from
Racquel Rhule and
Nicole Ovelheira.
In game two, York was shut down by New Rochelle pitcher Gaby Hay, who allowed just two hits and struck out eight over five innings.
Although the season was a disappointing one for York, there were some silver linings. Ovelheira finished the season with several new school records. She finishes the 2018 year with the new school record for hits (29), batting average (.475) and on-base percentage (.515).
