JAMAICA, N.Y.- The York College men's volleyball team suffered a tough loss at home in a CUNYAC matchup against Lehman College on Thursday night. Lehman took the match against the Cardinals 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-17).
During the first set Lehman was dominant, scoring the first six points of the evening. When York made the score 6-4, they stormed back with nine straight points to make it 15-4. Lehman hit .368 for the set and racked up 12 kills, while York only totaled four kills.
The Cardinals made the second set more interesting as they totaled nine kills and kept things close in the early going. The set was back and forth for the most part, after a kill from
Mambe Koureissi and an error by Lehman, the Cardinals trailed 19-16. Three kills, an ace, and three errors from the Cardinals helped Lehman score the next six points and take the set.
The third set was similar to the first for Lehman. After York tied things up at 5-5, Lehman rattled off 13 out of the next 16 points and took an 18-8 lead. The Cardinals would go on to lose the set 25-17. In the third set the Cardinals committed only three errors after committing nine in the previous two sets, but they only totaled four kills while Lehman totaled 11.
York was led on the night by
Akil Vaughn, who totaled a team-leading five kills and also tied for the team lead with three digs.
Frederis Tapia and
Mambe Koureissi both earned four kills on the evening.
Akeem George was a force above the net, as he racked up four blocks, which was more than Lehman's entire team. For Lehman, Yaw Eshun led the team with a match-high 12 kills.
York is now 3-15 on the season and 0-6 in CUNYAC play, while Lehman improves to 14-9 and 4-2 in CUNYAC play. The Cardinals will begin a four-game road trip as they head down to Massachusetts for two games against Pine Manor College on Friday night at 5 p.m and 7 p.m.
