Guese Wins at Singles as Women's Tennis Wraps Up CUNYAC Play at CSI
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With the final spot in the 2018 CUNYAC / HSS Women's Tennis Championship on the line, the York College women's tennis team fell to the College of Staten Island (3-6, 1-5), 8-1, on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Geraldine Guese (Astoria, N.Y./William Cullen Bryant HS) was victorious in the top singles match winning the eight-game pro-set in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-4). Guese and sophomore
Isabelle Martinez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Health Sciences) also played a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles falling 8-5.
Monique James turned in a strong effort at No. 6 singles taking four games in an 8-4 defeat.
The Cardinals (0-6, 0-5) host Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference match on Saturday, October 20 starting at 10 a.m.
