BOX SCORE STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team saw its playoff hopes get a boost on Saturday, as they topped the College of Staten Island, 80-67, on the road Saturday afternoon.
Jean Joseph led the Cardinals to victory, scoring 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting with ten rebounds.
Edwin Sainvil added 19 points and
Ryan Smart registered eight points and 12 boards.
After losing five straight CUNYAC games and falling out of the last playoff spot, the Cardinals got a much-needed win against the Dolphins, who came into the game in second place in the CUNYAC standings. The win pushes York's record to 6-13, 4-8 CUNYAC, while Staten Island falls to 11-9, 9-3 CUNYAC. York is still in seventh place and one game out of a playoff spot, but they still have games against the three teams ahead of them at home.
After a close first half, the Cardinals turned up their play in the second half and never trailed in the final 20 minutes of action. Staten Island closed to within one or two possessions on several occasions, but each time York was able to pull away again. With York holding a four-point lead with under ten minutes remaining, the Cardinals pulled away for good with a 14-5 run that pushed their advantage to 13 points. York never looked back from there.
York will now try to build off the momentum of the win today when they host Hunter College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
