Women’s Basketball Falls Behind Early in Loss to Lehman

BRONX, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team was outplayed in the first half, and although they picked it up in the second half, they could not recover and fell to Lehman College, 99-72 on Wednesday.
 
York had a miserable first half, falling behind 63-32 after the first 20 minutes of action.  The Cardinals committed 20 turnovers in the first half alone, which allowed Lehman to attempt 20 more shots.  Lehman made the most of those opportunities, shooting 55.1 percent from the field in the half.
 
York was better in the second half, cutting the turnovers down in the second half and shooting 51.6 percent from the field. They outscored the Lightning in the final 20 minutes, but the game was already decided at that point.
 
Karen Bellamy had another big game for York, scoring 29 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Allison Ahmed finished with 12 points and nine rebounds while coming off the bench.
 
Lehman got a game-high 30 points from Aliyah Dorsett, who also grabbed 11 rebounds. Ayanna Behegan had a double-double of her own with 24 points and ten rebounds.
 
York drops to 5-13, 3-8 CUNYAC, while Lehman is 11-9, 7-3 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will visit the College of Staten Island on Saturday at 3 p.m.
