BOX SCORE NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.-- York College Head Men's Soccer Coach
Al Meneses didn't have to wait long to get his first win as Head Coach, as the Cardinals defeated the College of New Rochelle, 2-0, on the road in the 2017 season-opener on Saturday.
Shavoy Campbell scored the first goal after a great pass by
Ivan Brito in the 20th minute. Brito's pass was a diagonal ball over the top. Shavoy ran on to it and chipped the goalie from outside the box.
Â
The second goal came in the 35th minute of the first half when
Abdel Manahf Idrissou scored off a set piece taken by Campbell. This was a free kick from about 25 yards that Campbell took. It hit the crossbar and Idrissou headed the rebound in.
"We worked on a formation change, set pieces and making passes to correct areas and angles of the field to expose a very-well organized and well-coached New Rochelle team," said Meneses. "Our game plan worked perfectly and we capitalized on things we had worked on and discussed. Â Great way to start the season and proud of the way the boys handled themselves against a very tough opponent".
York (1-0) will visit Yeshiva on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.
