Men's Soccer Wins Season Opener over New Rochelle

BOX SCORE NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.-- York College Head Men's Soccer Coach Al Meneses didn't have to wait long to get his first win as Head Coach, as the Cardinals defeated the College of New Rochelle, 2-0, on the road in the 2017 season-opener on Saturday.

Shavoy Campbell scored the first goal after a great pass by Ivan Brito in the 20th minute.  Brito's pass was a diagonal ball over the top. Shavoy ran on to it and chipped the goalie from outside the box.

The second goal came in the 35th minute of the first half when Abdel Manahf Idrissou scored off a set piece taken by Campbell.  This was a free kick from about 25 yards that Campbell took.  It hit the crossbar and Idrissou headed the rebound in.

"We worked on a formation change, set pieces and making passes to correct areas and angles of the field to expose a very-well organized and well-coached New Rochelle team," said Meneses. "Our game plan worked perfectly and we capitalized on things we had worked on and discussed.  Great way to start the season and proud of the way the boys handled themselves against a very tough opponent".

York (1-0) will visit Yeshiva on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.
