LANGHORNE, P.A.—The York College softball team could not get much going with the bats, losing a doubleheader on the road to Cairn University by scores of 8-0 and 9-1 respectively on Thursday.
York managed a total of three hits in two games against Cairn pitcher Meagan Marita, who pitched both ends of the doubleheader. In game one, she allowed just two hits and struck out three, while in the nightcap, she allowed one hit and fanned four.
Game One
After a scoreless first, Cairn got on the board with a three-run second inning, thanks in part to a bases-loaded, two-run single by Vanessa Munoz.
Cairn added three more runs in the third and then plated two runs in the fourth following a Katelyn Reiss two-run homer to round out the scoring.
York's only hits were a double by
Chyla Guevara in the first and a single from
Nicole Ovelheira in the fourth.
Game Two
York pitcher
Dorianny Rojas limited Cairn to just four hits and struck out four over six innings. However, she was done in by poor control, allowing 11 free passes on the day. Despite that, she was able to limit the damage until the sixth inning, when it finally caught up to her. After loading the bases, she allowed a two-run single to Reiss and then allowed two more runners to score on bases-loaded walks.
York's lone run came in the top of the fourth. Rojas reached on an error to start the inning and later moved to third on a
Tyler Smith single. Rojas then came around to score on a wild pitch.
York drops to 0-4 with the loss, while Cairn improves to 6-2. The Cardinals are scheduled to play at home against Lehman College on Saturday at 12 p.m. However, the weather forecast could put that game in jeopardy. Check yorkathletics.com for updates to the schedule.
