JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team held the lead for most of the first half against Hunter College, but faltered in the second half, losing by a score of 63-30.
York looked sharp early on, taking a 5-0 advantage after a three-pointer by Sheana Roscher. Another Roscher three later in the quarter helped York maintain its first-quarter lead. They would go into the second quarter with a 15-14 advantage.
The Cardinals held on to their lead for most of the second half. However, the Hawks closed the second quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 28-19 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, York could only manage three points, while Hunter netted 13, which further extended the Hawks lead. Another big quarter in the fourth by the Hawks put the game well out of reach.
Rafaella Savva led the Cardinals with 12 points, while
Juliet Matthews added ten points and eight rebounds. Roscher finished with eight points and eight boards. Jade Aponte led the Hawks with 16 points.
The Cardinals drop to 2-19, 2-11 CUNYAC, while Hunter improves to 11-10, 7-5 CUNYAC. York hosts CCNY on Friday at 6 p.m.
