BOX SCORE BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The York College men's soccer team lost a wild one to Medgar Evers College on Wednesday afternoon by an unorthodox score of 8-3.
Things started off well for the Cardinals as
John Ruiz netted his first career goal in the tenth minute of action. But after 15 minutes of scoreless play, the Cougars erupted for five unanswered goals before halftime. Fequere Saint George and Miguel Denada scored a pair of goals, while Nestor Silvas added another.
York regrouped after halftime, scoring two straight goals to cut the deficit to 5-3. Freshmen
Erik Bailon (56th minute) and
Ivan Brito (63rd minute), each scored the first goals of their career to make things interesting.
However, any hope of a comeback was quickly dashed, with the Cougars once again scoring a flurry of goals—this time tallying three scores in a five-minute span.
York is now 0-3, while Medgar Evers is 1-2. Although Medgar Evers is a conference opponent, this match counts a non-conference game. Their CUNYAC match-up will take place October 15.
