CHICOPEE, MA—The York College women's volleyball team came up short in its season opener vs. Albertus Magnus College on Friday night, losing by a score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-20). The match was the first of three to be played for York College at the Elms College Blazer Invitational.
In the loss, York got a nice effort from
Tiandra Jones, who had a match-high seven kills to go along with four aces and seven digs.
Wilnoska Perez led York with nine digs and
Chayana Jimenez and
Allison Ahmed each chipped in five digs apiece.
The Falcons jumped out to comfortable leads in both the first and second sets to take a 2-0 advantage. However, the Cardinals would not go quietly, as they pulled ahead 14-13 in the third set, following three straight aces by Jones. But Albertus responded with five unanswered points to go up 18-14. From there, the Cardinals could not recover and dropped the third set, 25-20.
York (0-1) will close out the Blazer Invitational tomorrow with matches vs. SUNY Cobleskill and Elms at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
