York Women’s Basketball Falls at Home to Lehman

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team kept it close for awhile, before Lehman College pulled away in the second half to win the game, 95-69.

Lehman scored the first six points of the game, but York got it right back going on a 10-2 run to take a two point lead. It was a back-and-forth contest for most of the first half before Lehman started to pull away to take a 12-point lead into the break.

In the third quarter, Lehman extended their lead to 15, but like in the first half York battled back. Samantha Bond made a layup to bring York to within four (58-54), but that was as close as it got. Lehman called a timeout and went on an 11-3 run to end the quarter to push their lead back up to 12.

The fourth quarter was all Lehman as they outscored York 26-12 in the final period. York did not score in the final 4:51 of the game.

York was lead by Samantha Bond, who had 23 points, and Jigcara Grant-the nation's leading rebounder- who had 15 points and 26 rebounds. Angelika Ruggiano scored 19 points, shooting 4-of-7 from behind the arc.

Leading the way for Lehman was the second-leading scorer in the nation Amely Del Rosario, who nearly had a triple-double, scoring 28 points, dishing out 12 assists, and grabbing seven rebounds. Jennifer Navarro had 27 points as well for Lehman.

York is now 4-19, 2-13 CUNYAC. Lehman is 17-6, 12-2 CUNYAC. The Cardinals close out the 2015-16 regular season on Tuesday, February 16th when they host Hunter College at 6 p.m. York will honor their seniors before the game. Fans are encouraged to attend as there will be raffles for Applebee's gift cards and JetBlue tickets.
