JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team kept it close for awhile, before Lehman College pulled away in the second half to win the game, 95-69.
Lehman scored the first six points of the game, but York got it right back going on a 10-2 run to take a two point lead. It was a back-and-forth contest for most of the first half before Lehman started to pull away to take a 12-point lead into the break.
In the third quarter, Lehman extended their lead to 15, but like in the first half York battled back.
Samantha Bond made a layup to bring York to within four (58-54), but that was as close as it got. Lehman called a timeout and went on an 11-3 run to end the quarter to push their lead back up to 12.
The fourth quarter was all Lehman as they outscored York 26-12 in the final period. York did not score in the final 4:51 of the game.
York was lead by
Samantha Bond, who had 23 points, and
Jigcara Grant-the nation's leading rebounder- who had 15 points and 26 rebounds.
Angelika Ruggiano scored 19 points, shooting 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
Leading the way for Lehman was the second-leading scorer in the nation Amely Del Rosario, who nearly had a triple-double, scoring 28 points, dishing out 12 assists, and grabbing seven rebounds. Jennifer Navarro had 27 points as well for Lehman.
York is now 4-19, 2-13 CUNYAC. Lehman is 17-6, 12-2 CUNYAC. The Cardinals close out the 2015-16 regular season on Tuesday, February 16th when they host Hunter College at 6 p.m. York will honor their seniors before the game.
