JAMAICA, N.Y.— In the season finale, the York College women's volleyball team defeated Purchase College in four sets (21-25, 25-19, 30-28, 25-23).

The seniors, Tiandra Jones and Shauncia McClendon, were both honored before the start of the game.

"To win on senior night is everything I could have asked for," said Jones. "The team really showed up for us and gave us a nice send off."

McClendon came into the game ranked first in the CUNYAC and fourth in the nation in service aces. Jones finished her career at York with 285 digs.

Jones finished the game with seven kills and seven digs. McClendon finished with nine kills and three aces.

In the first set, the Cardinals lost an early lead and struggled to get it back and the Panthers took the first set 25-21. York managed to hang onto a lead in the second set, winning 25-19. The third set saw ten ties with both teams fighting to maintain momentum, but the Cardinals came out on top, winning the set 30-28. The Cardinals put on an impressive performance in the fourth set, hanging on to win 25-23.

Argenis Contreras finished with nine kills, two aces and three digs. Wilnoska Perez came off the bench to finish with three kills and two digs.

The Cardinals finished their 2016 season with 3-20 overall record and 1-7 conference record.
