BROOKLYN, NY – The York College Cardinals fell to the City College of New York Beavers Saturday by a score of 4-0 in their final match of the 2016 season.
The Cardinals were able to keep City College close, allowing just one first half goal, which was scored in the 25th minute by Melany Cacares from a Marissa Olsen cross.
York allowed the Beavers (7-6, 3-3 CUNYAC) to pull away in the second half however, allowing three goals on six shots. The first of these was scored in the 48th minute when Cacares would again score off of a cross, this time from Tatiana Zuluaga.
The Beavers would then make it 3-0 in the 59th minute as Isabella Molina would feed Olsen for a goal straight ahead. City College would wrap up the scoring in the 70th minute when Molina would score one for herself off of a corner from Zuluaga.
The game was played under a downpour and high winds and after several injuries in the second half, the game was called in the 72nd minute.
The Cardinals had a chance to make they playoffs with a victory, but the loss officially ends their 2016 season.
With the loss, the Cardinals finish the regular season 4-12, 1-5 CUNYAC. Women's soccer also said goodbye five seniors and team leaders in
