Women’s Soccer Falls to CSI

NEW YORK, NY – The York College Cardinals women's soccer team fell to the College of Staten Island Dolphins, 9-0, on Saturday.

While the lopsided score may tell one story, the Cardinals were able to hold a powerful Dolphins' offense to just two early first-half goals, but things went south in the second half, as CSI poured it on with seven more goals.

Staten Island's first half tallies came in quick succession, with the first coming in the 3rd minute from Senior Jennifer Cosenza on a low pass into the box from Maryana Chaykovska.  The Dolphins would strike again in the 8th minute when Freshman Natalia Sandor crossed one into the box for Brianna DiStefano.

York would hold the Dolphins to just a two- goal lead until the 49th minute when Cosenza would strike again, this time from Krystina Rodriguez on a through ball.  Nearly 11 minutes later in the 60th minute, Rodriguez would tally her own goal, going top shelf from 18 yards out thanks to a Kaitlin Russo assist.

The Dolphins would make it 5-0 in the 61st minute on Cosenza's third goal of the match on a shot from the left corner, assisted again by Kaitlin Russo.  In the 70th minute, Freshman Dimitra Tountas would put one in from the right side of the box on Krystina Rodriguez's second assist of the afternoon.  Lizabeth Aparicio would score her first of the match in the 77th minute as she dribbled through defenders for a goal after a pass from Adriana Baltazar.

Cosenza would tally her first assist of the match in the 81st minute as she passed the ball to Concetta Perito for the eighth Staten Island goal of the day.  The Dolphins would score their ninth and final goal In the 89th minute on Cosenza's fourth goal as she dribbled through the defenders after a pass from Aparicio.

With the win, Staten Island improves to 9-3-2 (4-0 CUNYAC), and York falls to 4-9 (1-4 CUNYAC).  Despite the score, goalkeeper Sarah Hilaire managed an impressive 14 saves.  The Cardinals will be back in action on October 18 at 3:30 pm against the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights.
