TEANECK, N.J.— The York College men's soccer team lost a high-scoring affair on Sunday evening on the road against Yeshiva University by a score of 7-2.
York found itself in an early hole it could never climb out of, surrendering two goals within the first two minutes of play. First, YU's Juan Cotton took a cross from Avi Baron to put Yeshiva up 1-0. Then Ben David scored on a breakaway at 1:56.
The early onslaught continued, with Yeshiva finding the back of the net in 14th minute off a corner kick and then another goal in the 17th minute, making it 4-0. The Maccabees tacked on two more first-half goals to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
The Cardinals broke through just before halftime thanks to an unassisted goal by
Ricardo Bartley. They also added a late second-half goal when
Albert Lucas scored unassisted on a looping shot into the corner of the net. Although York played improved soccer in the second-half, the struggles in the first half were too much to overcome.
York falls to 0-2 with the loss, while Yeshiva improves to 1-2. York travels to New Jersey City University on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
