BELLEROSE, N.Y. –– In a CUNYAC softball match-up, Lehman College defeated the York College Cardinals by scores of 21-3 and 17-4 at Padvan-Preller Field.
In the first game, Lehman jumped out to the early 4-0 lead. Ashley Williams got things started with a RBI triple to bring in Arlette Martinez for the 1-0 lead. From there, thanks to a couple of York errors, Lehman made it 4-0.
York was able to respond back in the bottom half of the first inning, thanks to a
Chyla Guevara RBI single to make it 4-1.
Kimberly Acosta then made it 4-2 with a RBI single of her own and
Angelika Ruggiano scored on an error, making it 4-3.
But the Lightning bats were too much to overcome. Kyala Cruz, one of the stars in the game, was 3-for-4 with two RBI's and teammate Ashley Williams was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs as well. Megan Bravo (6-6) picked up the win.
In the second game, Lehman (7-6, 3-5 CUNYAC) built a 13-1 lead early and went on to win, 17-4 over the Cardinals.
York (0-14, 0-6 CUNYAC) was led by
Melanie Choy and
Dessiris Gonzalez, who both were 1-for-3 for the game with an RBI.
Karen Werner was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Up next for York are a couple of CUNYAC doubleheaders with Brooklyn College at Padavan-Preller Field on Saturday at 12 p.m. and on Sunday against the College of Staten Island at 12 p.m.
